Metal Postcard, a great record label run out Brooklyn and Hong Kong is in talks to put out my first book of short stories in conjunction with a digital-only release on Fantasma Press. Look forward to a free download of the book and the excusive mix on here once the book comes out later this year. For reals, it’s going down in 2009.
DIY publishing is the shit, folks. 8 stories with illustrations and a DJ mix sound good, no? They take place in Houston, Austin, a fictional city in Mexico and Brooklyn. Mexican-American lives as a backdrop for mixing genre stuff like fantasy and science-fiction with realism is what I am sort of aiming for with the stories. A couple of the stories have been published in various places but most of them are new and eager to be your BFF.
Maybe my beloved ladyfriend will make a short promotional video based on the stories, too? Post-Texas fiction coming hard in the paint. Cormac McCarthy ain’t the only one who can write about the Lone Star State. Like Chingo Bling with an MFA in fiction or something?
I just wanted to welcome all you nice folks, writers, painters, illustrators, DJ’s, ugly people and readers galore to a new print and e-only publshing outfit. I hope to start out the madness with my chapbook and CD mix by a good friend from Austin. Look for big things in 2009 and beyond. Or, at least some dope stuff to read and look at. The drawing below is from Tom Kaczynski aka Tom K from the excellent MOME comics anthology.
And, to leave you, here is a classic track from the 90’s punks of Tijuana No!
